After their first date at a local café, Triston Hill knew he had found the woman he was going to marry. Just three days after that first coffee Triston told his mum he found the one and just nine months later got down on one knee and proposed to his now-wife Tamara.

“On our first date…we closed down Tim Horton’s, that’s how long (we were there). We were hitting it off. From that point on everything just seemed to click,” he said. “I feel like I knew from day one.”

After going ring shopping together Tamara knew a proposal was coming, but she had no idea when or where. Triston wanted something memorable so he coordinated a photo shoot of Tamara and her older sister Nicole at Jamieson Creek in Kamloops with Rozalind Photography complete with a surprise proposal.

“I was planning on hiding in the bush, which I did, and at the right moment when she was taking photos by herself, Nicole (her sister) signaled me out and I proposed. She was crying, it was awesome.”

The couple spent months looking at locations from Vancouver Island to along the coast to different mountain resorts. Tamara explained they wanted somewhere outdoors that would also be a little trip for their guests to take.

“Sun Peaks gives you that destination wedding vibe while still being close to Kamloops and still being really affordable,” she said.

Settling on Tod Mountain View as their ceremony venue the couple said “I do” on August 11, 2018.

The pair’s friends and family were instrumental in creating their vision and incorporating many unique touches throughout the day

From an arbour built by a bridesmaid’s husband to a guest book created by the groom’s dad to the inclusion of the bride’s dog and a special father-daughter dance, the day was filled with personalized and sentimental moments.

The couple opted to forgo a first look and instead read letters to each other with a door between them to have a moment together without seeing each other.

“It was more of a note. It talked about how excited we were and our goals for the future and the things we are looking forward to doing together,” explained Tamara.

Triston admitted he was nervous waiting for his bride to appear and walk down the aisle.  Those nerves and emotions grew when he saw Tamara for the first time that day.

“When she was walking down I just thought to myself ‘this is a day that our lives change. I get to be with the girl that I love most in my life forever and that’s going to be awesome.’ I just couldn’t wait to get started and have that night be special.”

Following the ceremony they stayed behind for portraits while their guests went back to the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel for cocktails and Mother Nature decided to send the newlyweds some good luck with some rain. They didn’t mind the showers and fondly noted the ceremony was the only time it didn’t rain all day.

With a whimsical romantic theme, the couple transformed the hotel’s ballroom by bringing the outdoors inside.

“We stuck with that vibe of bringing the outside inside because it’s a venue that doesn’t have windows so we really wanted people to have that feeling of still whimsical, woodsy, nature vibes,” said Tamara.

Reflecting on their day, the couple both agreed their one piece of advice to future Sun Peaks bridal couples was to remain true to their vision.

“My advice based off our wedding is to keep in mind what your end goal is for the wedding and what you picture in your head. Especially in a place like Sun Peaks because it’s so diverse. You can have an indoor ceremony, you can have an outdoor ceremony, you can have one near the hotel, you can have one like ours that wasn’t,” Tamara said. “You have a bunch of options”
